The Middle

Have you ever heard someone yell out, “The middle!” Yeah...neither have I. We tend to celebrate the start and end of a venture, but not the middle. And don’t get me wrong, each state is important. The start indicates your ambition to embark upon a new journey. The end is a declaration that you’ve completed what you set out to do. You are an Achiever! But when you’re in the middle? The crowds leave and the applause fades. Those who initially showered you in supportive comments and ‘likes’ become preoccupied with their own lives. You’re then faced with a choice to stay on course or abort the mission.

I emphasize the middle because in your journey it’s easy to become lackadaisical when you’re in the thick of your commitments. Like school, for example. When the semester begins your outfits are already preplanned; you have every intention of finishing with an A+ in every course. But oh! By midterms? You start to see the separation between those who are truly committed to an A+ and others who’ve calculated the number of assignments they need to merely pass the class. The middle is that pivotal moment in your life. It’s the climax of your story where key decisions are made. Yet we all (yes, me as well) tend to focus on the start or end.

I write this blog for those of you who are in the middle. You see others who’ve made it to their end or who are embarking upon new endeavors; and you’re here, well, in the middle. Don’t underestimate this moment. This is where you decide to put your actions behind your verbal commitments. This is where you actively change an aspiration to an acquisition.

Never let anyone discredit the stage you’re in and fight to maintain your focus! In fact, if someone tries to deter you from the course tell them, “Hold on, I’m in the middle of something.”
